Character

Character Name: Cassidy, a.k.a. Flash Cut
Age: I'm gonna say 14, since I haven't found a canon age for her anywhere but that seems about right given her experience as a magical girl and the time that most of them seem to gain their powers.
Suitability: Even if she WAS under 13, Cassidy has been essentially a child soldier (though fighting against very inhuman enemies) for at least a year by her current canonpoint.

Canon: Sleepless Domain
Canon Point: After her meeting with Goops =)

History:
There isn't much concrete information on Cassidy's past before the comic begins, but there is enough information to make some educated guesses. Raised in the supposed last bastion of humanity after Monsters Happened (shhh don't worry about it), Cassidy lived a relatively normal and comfortable life. She had always looked up to magical girls and wished every night to receive the Dream that marks a girl's passage from the mundane to the magical, and eventually that wish was granted. Thrilled to be finally leaving the company of peers that worried about such stupid and pointless things like 'boys' and 'grades', Cassidy took to her new private school and life with gusto...only to realize that being granted magical powers and becoming a glorified soldier does not in fact suddenly make someone a paragon of hope and justice. Her fellow classmates at Future's Promise were just as childish, petty, and cruel as those in public school...occasionally even moreso. Cassidy quickly became disillusioned with most of her classmates, but one idol she had always looked up to managed to match her high expectations: Kokoro, a.k.a. Heartful Punch. She even was lucky enough to fall into HP's personal circle, joining the strength training club HP formed and hanging out nearly exclusively with them--to the detriment of her own team, in fact.

Then, canon begins and Future's Promise is rocked by the sudden death of most of Team Alchemical, a high-profile and fairly powerful team. Of the five members, only two survived--Tessa (Alchemical Aether) and Undine (Alchemical Water), the former of whom burned out her power saving the life of the latter. A bigger shock to Cassidy personally was that Undine was already out fighting again three days later--and alongside HP, no less. (Who, in true girl-himbo fashion, had no idea what had happened until informed by her friends.) It wasn't a surprise that HP would go to apologize and check up on Undine afterward, but the rumor mill was saying just the next day that Undine was looking for a new team not even five days after the death of her old one, and Undine was friendly enough with HP the day after that she could get away with using her real name--something usually considered a cardinal sin of embarrassment. HP had invited Undine into the strength training club, and Undine smiled and acted like everything was perfectly normal.

The whole thing just didn't add up.

Cassidy's suspicions rose further and further as the days wore on. HP insisted on partnering with Undine nearly every day the club met, and continued to go out at night with Undine when previously she had stubbornly refused to team up with anyone--despite fairly constant pressure from her manager. A combination of fear and jealousy led Cassidy's suspicion down horrible assumptions; had the destruction of Team Alchemical not been an accident, but something planned? Had Undine stolen the power of Alchemical Aether somehow, giving her that eerie pink light in her eyes? Was HP her next target, taking advantage of that dear idol's trust and instinct to help others? Cassidy took to snooping on the pair's magical training sessions whenever she could, and picking the brain of another member of the club, Vedika, after she had trained with Undine only solidified Cassidy's wild assumptions. The psychic magical girl could clearly tell that Undine was hiding something from the rest of the group, but had no idea what it was. Bud and Harley, the last two members of the club, were concerned as well.

Weeks passed, and nothing changed. None of the rest of the group would breach the subject, and HP and Undine only got closer and closer as a pair. Everyone just pretended like everything was normal, and it was driving Cassidy mad--she'd had enough. Taking the chance when HP was held up with business with her manager, Cassidy isolated Undine with the excuse of training together and started in on her 'interrogation'. She lobbed her accusations against Undine between attacks with her scissors, calling out the other girl's strange behavior and demanding to know 'where she really got the pink in her eyes'. Undine played the defensive, both verbally and in combat, but how the confrontation would have played out between them was cut short. Bud had been snooping herself and saw the confrontation start, and having already been suspicious of Cassidy before this called in Vedika and Harley as backup. Not expecting the rest of the group to take Undine's side, Cassidy lashed out at the rest of them, calling out their own silence and complacency in the face of everything. Bud remained unflappable, but Harley was set off nearly to the point of trading blows. Undine begged them all to stop fighting, but quickly broke down in tears and fled the area.

At that point, the bickering grew in earnest--mostly between Cassidy, Bud, and Harley. Tensions were still running high when HP finally showed up, confused and clueless as to what happened. Vedika offered to show HP what she had seen (faster than trying to explain everything otherwise), while Cassidy protested how one-sided that perspective was. However, any perspective would show a grave moral line that Cassidy had crossed--using her weapon against Undine directly. Cassidy could try to defend herself, but the damage was done. HP told Cassidy to stay away from both herself and Undine...and that was that. Cassidy had been cast out by the person she cared about the most for the crime of being worried for her safety.

That night, Cassidy did not meet up with the rest of Team Flash. She went out on her own, fighting monsters solo and stewing in her anger, frustration, and grief. Everyone she had counted as a friend had turned against her, and she took it all out on the monsters roaming the streets. But it wasn't only monsters that found Flash Cut that night--there was something else. A dark voice that came from nowhere, that taunted Cassidy's isolation. A girl made of purple goo that that said they might have gotten along, were Cassidy not 'one of hers'. Cassidy demanded an identity, and was given an answer of 'your blue friend's little secret'...and a slice of claws to her twin backs from the very monsters Cassidy had just destroyed. In the last moments before her form dissolved entirely, Cassidy plunged her scissor blade into the purple girl's face--the last mark she would leave on this world.

Personality:
Cassidy is a difficult girl to get to know, in many senses. In her best moments Cassidy is cheerful and friendly, but certainly with plenty of spice to her. She doesn't hesitate to sass at someone for being ridiculous, but is equally ready to reassure an upset friend. She's loyal to a fault and ready to help and encourage where she can--though often she's a bit clumsy in the execution. While she's not really a 'hobbies' type of person, Cassidy does enjoy spending time with her friends regardless of what they're doing.

However, a far more complicated web lies under the surface. She has an unfortunate tendency to obsess: over the way people act, about what is (or should be) important, and especially over those who embody all the things she values. Cassidy's values and identity are very much informed by the world she grew up in--a world where the monsters in the dark are a very real threat, and young girls chosen by chance are expected to lay down their lives in service of the rest of the population. She holds hard to the ideal of the magical girl, and is frustrated by the ways that reality and human nature eat away at it.

That frustration turns into derision and scorn for those that don't play in line with her views, but she is not in general cruel about these opinions. More often she dismisses offending parties, determining them not cool enough or too vapid to really understand things the way she does. But that anger still simmers under the surface, and when it does boil over the consequences are explosive. Unwilling or unable to understand things from another's point of view, Cassidy batters away through confrontation (either passive or aggressive) until something gives. Unfortunately, this usually tends to be other's opinions of her, and the cycle continues.

But despite all of this, she isn't a bad person at heart. Even if her perceptions of moral values are somewhat skewed, Cassidy truly believes in being a protector of the people and fulfilling her duties. Her scorn of others doesn't come from viewing them as weak, but for worrying over inconsequential things when there are such greater concerns at stake. Her real weak point is HP, having been built up by Cassidy as a paragon of everything she herself aspires to be. Had Undine not become so close so fast with Kokoro, Cassidy likely would have only seen her as reckless or possibly unhinged in not taking the time to grieve her team's death--a threat to herself more than anyone else. It was the threat of her bad-luck-by-association getting its fangs into Cassidy's idol that sent her into a spiral of suspicion and hate. In the end, her greatest failing is the very thing she claims to hate so much in others--worrying about the attention and affection of the person she values above anything else rather than the tangible problems that lie in front of her.

Sin:
Wrath - This is, honestly, the easiest to justify. Cassidy is extremely judgmental and quick to jump to aggressive action, not having the patience to wait out the reluctance of other parties to be forthright. And while it was a rare outburst even for her, the fact that Cassidy turned to violent confrontation with Undine rather than simply aggressive says a lot about how she acts in times of stress.

Lust - Another easy shoe-in, given the root cause of her grudge against Undine. Whether her wishes to emulate HP's example extend to romantic inclinations like Bud insinuated or not, the point very much stands that Cassidy focuses everything around Kokoro to the point that she's alienated herself even from the rest of Team Flash. There's really no way to paint any aspect of that as healthy, even with the caveat of 'teenagers sure do be a way'.

Envy - While the logic here is a bit weaker, it follows along the same idea as with Lust, but to a slightly different end. Cassidy wants to be Heartful Punch--or at least, to match her ideal. Being the one person that has remained on the pedestal that Cassidy built up over the years, HP represents the distilled ideal of a magical girl that Cassidy has devoted herself to becoming, regardless of whether that image is real or an illusion. While she doesn't resent Kokoro for this, that underlying desire is still very real.

Executor Title: Paraiah

Memoria:
1: First Memorial: A Vision Softly Creeping. Contains the memory of the dream Cassidy received the night she became a magical girl--though it seems to cut off suddenly at the end. Just what was that bright light?

2: Second Memorial: What A Magical Girl Should Be. Contains the memory of meeting Heartful Punch in person for the first time at Hope's Promise. Regaining this memory returns Cassidy's memory of her friendship with Kokoro and her idolization of Heartful Punch.

3: Third Memorial: Pumping Gains. Contains the memory of working out with Bud and Harley. Cassidy is spotting Harley on the dumbbells, while Bud somehow manages to ramble on about some gossip and run on the treadmill at the same time. Regaining this memory returns Cassidy's memory of her friendship with Bud and Harley, as well as proper workout techniques.

4: Fourth Memorial: Beginning of the End. Contains the memory of eating lunch with the Magical Girl Power Training Club. HP mentions that she and Undine plan to do patrols together, but not as an official team, and Cassidy asks if she's spoken to her manager about it. Regaining this memory returns Cassidy's knowledge of the death of Team Alchemical and the conspiracy Cassidy built up around Undine.

5: Fifth Memorial: Take This Promise To The End of You. Contains the memory of Cassidy's death at the hands of the purple girl.

6: Sixth Memorial: A Light Contact Wound. Contains the memory of watching an informational video in class regarding infections caused by monsters. Shown on screen is a disturbing scene of a strange dark purple substance erupting out of a young man's orifices with a loud scream. It is unclear if the scream is from him or the substance itself. Regaining this memory returns Cassidy's knowledge of the immediate and long-terms effects of direct exposure to monsters.

7: Seventh Memorial: Cut to the Chase. Contains the memory of Cassidy fighting while out on patrol. A swarm of eye-spiders surrounds her, and she splits herself before hacking away at the swarm. Regaining this memory returns Cassidy's skill in using her scissors in combat.

8: Eighth Memorial: The Time is Ten PM. Contains the memory of waiting up late at night when she was very young to watch the inner barrier come down and hear the announcements to the magical girls out on patrol. Regaining this memory returns Cassidy's knowledge of the functions of the inner and outer barriers of the City and the history of the Collapse.

9: Ninth Memorial: When The Chips Are Down. Contains the memory of HP being shown what happened with Undine. HP is clearly furious about Cassidy's attack, but immediately goes to look for Undine instead of pressing a fight about it.

10: Tenth Memorial: Never Meet Your Heroes. Contains the memory of walking through the halls at school and overhearing girls gossiping about the love life of someone else in the school. Regaining this memory returns Cassidy's memory of both her ideals and the gulf between them and reality.

11: Eleventh Memorial: Friends and Confidantes. Contains the memory of Cassidy spending time between classes with Vedika and discussing an interview a large publication had with HP. Both of them are laughing about some of HP's sillier answers. Regaining this memory returns Cassidy's memory of her friendship with Vedika.

12: Twelfth Memorial: Split the Risk. Contains the memory of Cassidy confronting Undine. Her split selves launch a quick series of coordinated attacks, which Undine is only just able to dodge. Regaining this memory returns Cassidy's skill at fighting as two people.

13: Thirteenth Memorial: Maintain Your Brand. Contains the memory of Cassidy's name and her magical girl title, Flash Cut.

14: Fourteenth Memorial: No I in Team. Contains the memory of meeting up with Team Flash for nightly patrols. One of the other members complains about Cassidy's 'weird idol club' making her late again, and Cassidy gets very defensive about the coolness (or lack thereof) of the club. Regaining this memory returns Cassidy's memory of Team Flash and her strained relationship with them.
